Mr. James E. “Country” Chapman, Sr. passed away at Maury Regional Medical Center on Monday, January 21, 2013 surrounded by his family.
James was born on March 28, 1932 to the late James Russell Chapman and the late Elise Bingham Chapman in Maury County, Tennessee. He was a loving husband to Evelyn Spears Chapman whom he married on December 6, 1952. She was the love of his life and he always took great care of her. His children remember that in all those years they were never apart. He worked as a truck driver for several different trucking firms over the years to support his family. He had worked for Alman Trucking, Civil, Fox and General Trucking.
Mr. Chapman loved his kids and grandchildren with all his heart. He would do anything for them and was always there for them when they needed him. He never met a stranger. He loved talking to anybody he would meet and always loved to make a trade, whether it was knives or other things. His children remember that he raised them right and that he was the “Best Daddy” anyone could have.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his children: James “Wolfie” Chapman, Jr., Linda Riley, Marilyn (Artie) Haskin and Ann (Tommy) Stewart; grandchildren: Greg (Brandy) Riley, Kari (Chris) Pewitt, Jason Haskin, Kevin Stewart and Lisa Stewart; 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son: Larry Chapman, granddaughter: Renee Baxter; brother: R. C. Chapman and sister: Ruby Chapman Baker.
Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Wendell Allman officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Greg Riley, Jason Haskin, Kevin Stewart, Chris Hayes, Lucky Baker and Curtis Baker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Pewitt, Rocky Baker P. J. Holt and Corey Beckhum.
