Mr. James A. Barnett, 67, passed away on November 7, 2012 after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mr. Barnett was born in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to the late James Hollis Barnett and the late Virginia Thompson Davis. He was the loving husband of Maggie Barnett, having just celebrated their twenty-first anniversary on November 4. He is remembered as a great and loving father who raised his four children. He made sure all their needs were met. Even though he was a strong person who was a bear of a man in size, he was gentle in spirit. His daughter says that he was a courageous man with a strong personality.
He retired from Lasko Metal products as a maintenance worker and was known to be able to do virtually any job needed. He loved “piddling” with wood working and furniture building. He loved to fish, hunt and go camping. He always raised a garden to provide for his family.
But most of all, his wife remembers that he was a good Christian man who loved his church family at New Song Baptist Church. His favorite scripture was Phillipians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
James Barnett is survived by his wife: Maggie Barnett of Columbia; children: Carol (Terry) Geasley of Hickman County, Jeffrey Barnett of Columbia, James Allen Barnett of Hickman County and Shanna (Tommy) Reavis of Petersburg; step-children: Debbie (Howard) Moorehead of Fayetteville, Christy (Chris) Land of Florida and Kimberly Ditty of Lewisburg; grandchildren: Jennifer LaBelle, Rocky Hall, Jr., Jesse Reavis, Coty McConnell, Blaine Thomason and Dakota Harris; great-grandchildren: Trey LaBelle, Autumn LaBelle, Brooklyn LaBelle, Kirsten Hall and Dallas Hall; siblings: Helen Davis, Evadene Williamson, Annie Ruth Cothran and Roger Dale Sears. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings: Judy Hyatt and Edward Barnett; and his grandson: Ty Ethridge.
