Mr. Jack Leroy Lightfoot, 81, a resident of Fairview Drive in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Lightfoot will be conducted Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Emily Barker officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Born in Picher, OK, he was the son of the late Lillon David and Ivan Mae Fox Lightfoot and husband of the late Marise Parrish Lightfoot.
Mr. Lightfoot received his B.A. at Southwestern in Winfield, KS, a M.A. at George Peabody and M+30 at MTSU. He was retired as principal of Mt. Pleasant High School, a coach and teacher at the old Hay Long High School and Santa Fe High School, named Mid-State Coach of the Year in 1958, by the Tennessean and was an all state football player in Oklahoma in 1943. He was the mayor of Mt. Pleasant for 2 terms, a city commissioner from 1970 -1978, was on the Mt. Pleasant Power Board, served on the Maury County Board of Equalization from 1990-1992, a member of the American Legion Post #10, where he was commander for 14 years and District Commander for 2 years, a WW II veteran of the US Navy and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacque Lightfoot of Columbia; two sons, Jeff Lesa Lightfoot of Summertown and John Dorrie Lightfoot of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Rita Montgomery of Miami, OK; grandchildren, Noah Lightfoot and David Lightfoot, both of Mt. Pleasant, Addie Lightfoot of Summertown and Zoe Marshall of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Corbett, Helen Williamson and four brothers, Lester, Herbert, Lemoyne and Gene Lightfoot.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dugger, Tim Spears, Tony Grimes, Seth Brown, Tim Brown, Bob Walker, Randy Benderman and Earl Pettus. Honorary pallbearers will be Red Lindsey, Ted Sisco, Jimmy Goodloe, Gary Marshall, Vance Brummel, elders of First Presbyterian Church and the members of the Mt. Pleasant Power Board.
