Jack Cothran

February 22, 1926 — October 6, 2002

Mr. John E. "Jack" Cothran, 76, resident of Porter Circle, Columbia, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Cothran will be conducted Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson Heights Church of Christ with Andy Roberts and Tommy Hagewood officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Clarence and Lela Russell Cothran. He served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII and was a retired machinist from Union Carbide Corporation. He was a member of the Jackson Heights Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ruth Hicks Wilkins Cothran of Columbia; one daughter, Rita Carol James Odom of Mt. Pleasant; one stepdaughter Connie Wilkins Steve Lee of Brentwood; one stepson James Rheta Wilkins of Cookeville; five grandsons, Shane and Trent Odom of Mt. Pleasant, Ray and Jeff Wilkins of Cookeville, and Tim Kim Kennedy of Culleoka; four granddaughters, Rhonda Odom of Mt. Pleasant, Abby Lee of Brentwood, Tonya Joey Davis of Culleoka, and Tracy Scott of Mt. Pleasant; eleven great-grandchildren, Trevor Odom, Brittany, Zach, Ben and Sam Davis, Kelly Chapman, Ashley Anderson, Jody Scott Peyton, Savannah and Grayson Kennedy; and one sister-in-law, Ann Cothran of Tullahoma; three brothers, Russell Lucy Cothran of Columbia, Bill Cothran of Rockdale, and Albert Shirley Cothran of Whitehouse.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Judy Murphy and a brother, Emory Cothran.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Garner, Rayburn Barr, Larry Yeager, Morris Boshers, Clifton Kelley, Martin Deen, Harvey Nicholson and Henry Warf. Honorary pallbearers will be Claude Mayes and the machinists at United Carbide; Dr. Ben Gardner, Dr. James Richardson, Dr. Doug Wilburn, Doctors and staff of Oncology Associates, and Dr. Charles Wendt and staff.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Maury County Unit of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1212, Columbia, TN 38402-1212.
