Mr. Jack Allen, age 58, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013 with his loving wife at his side.
Jack was born on August 17, 1954 in Flint, Michigan to the late John Allen and the late Vera Hoover. He worked for many years at Nelson Tube in manufacturing and later owned and operated a lawn mowing service.
A long-time resident of Columbia, Jack and his wife Wanda spent the last few years in Missouri after she was transferred by General Motors. They were married on May 24, 1976 and Wanda says that she loved everything about him. Carissa, his grand-daughter remembers that when he was sick during her last visit with him, her grandfather held her hand and wouldn’t let go. Until a disabling accident, Jack was always known in the family as the strong one. He was an excellent automotive mechanic and his daughter, Hollie fondly recalls the time when she and her dad rebuilt the engine of her first car together. He also let Hollie skip school once to go pick up a Firebird that he had purchased.
Jack also instilled a great work ethic in his children and grandchildren. One of his grandsons remembers them working on the pool and the cars together, enjoying being together outside. Once Jack was disabled, his grandson, who was just a small boy at the time vowed to keep the lawn mowed for him; and has continued to do so even until today.
In addition to his wife, Wanda, Jack is survived by his children: David Romanawski, Mark Dimick and Hollie Allen ; grandchildren: Brandon and Andrew Romanowski, Brent and LesLee Dimick and Shon and Carissa Amos; and his siblings: Jeff Allen, Carol Payne and Sheeran Taylor.
