J P Hughes

Mr. J P Hughes, age 76, a resident of Long Branch Lane in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, September 7, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Greg Gwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 3:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The Williamson Co. native was the son of the late Ernest and Lela Ruth Ivey Hughes and the husband of the late Nancy Jo Harris Hughes who preceded him in death on September 2, 2002. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his children: Joan Dale Lindsey of Columbia, Leslie Tommy Pewitt of Mt. Pleasant, Alan Adra Hughes of Columbia and Dale Kelly Hughes of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Hunter Lindsey of Columbia, Trey Pewitt, Dustin Hughes, Coty Hughes, and Corey Hughes, all of Mt. Pleasant; Lance Cpl. Cole L.Jennifer Morgan-Hughes of North Carolina, Summer Hughes and Tiffany Mullins, both of Columbia; four great-grandchildren; one brother: David Joyce Hughes of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters: Alleen McMeen of Ardmore, AL and Ernestine Ross Whitley of Columbia; three sisters-in-law: Frances ?Peggy? Donald Brickey of Cottontown, TN, Linda Hughes of Pelham, TN and Ethel Hughes of Ashland City, TN. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Eugene, William and Clifton Hughes, one sister: Mattie Hughes and one sister-in-law: Frances Hughes; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special family friends, Kim Cagle, Lynn, Jennifer and Stan Keeton, Friends at Runway Market, Devoted pets Lady and Rusty..

Pallbearers will be Dale Hughes, Alan Hughes, Dale Lindsey, Tommy Pewittt, Trey Pewitt and Kim Cagle. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Donald Brickey, Raymond Harville, W.L. ?Bill? Lindsey, Wayne Pewitt, Junior King, Gary Hughes, Phil Lindsey, Mike Bassham, Employees of Bassham Excavating, Red Morgan, Dr. Gibran Naddy and Staff, Dr. Grant Barr and Staff, Caris Home Health, Members of the Collegevue Church of Christ and Locust Street Church of Christ.
