J. C. Gibson

March 30, 1926 — July 27, 2011

J.C. Gibson was born March 30, 1926 in Columbia, TN. He was the son of the late Jesse Gibson and Marie Dawson Gibson Wade and the husband of the late Jane Marie Hickman Gibson.

J.C. served during WW II in the Army Air Corps. He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation after 32 years of service as a crane operator and raw materials operator. Even though he was retired from Union Carbide, his family said that farming was always his passion and what he truly enjoyed doing. J.C. was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers Local 912 and the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.

Mr. Gibson passed away on Wednesday, July 27, at Williamson Medical Center following a brief illness.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Kathryn Gibson of Spring Hill; six grandchildren, Tina Inabnitt of Lewisburg, Teresa John Franklin of Clarksville, Donna Jackie Berryhill of Spring Hill, Cody Gibson of Murfreesboro, Destiny Adams of Spring Hill and Austin Gibson of Mt. Pleasant; 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren along with one brother, Glenn Gerda Gibson of Killen, AL. In addition to his wife and parents, J.C. was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Gibson.

Funeral services for Mr. Gibson will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points and Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Members of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be retirees of Union Carbide, Dory Adams, Phil Cayer, Jackie Berryhill, Steve Gibson and Dennis Gibson.
