J. B. Nicholson

February 26, 1925 — December 17, 2006

Mr. J.B. ?Nick? Nicholson, age 81, a longtime resident of Hilltop Drive, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 17, at the home of his daughter.

Funeral services for Mr. Nicholson will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The Ridley, TN, native was the son of the late George Taylor Nicholson and Lutie Mae Brown Nicholson. He was the husband of Dorothy Corrinne Mathis Nicholson who survives. He was a graduate of Haylong High School in Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Business College. He was retired from Occidental Chemical Company with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and the VFW. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and was a member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter: Connie N. Ken Cathey of Columbia; one grandson: Nicholas Cathey of Columbia; one granddaughter: Rebecca Cathey of Columbia; three brothers: Tommy Nicholson of Mt. Pleasant, Jim Jeannette Nicholson of Charleston, SC and Wray Jeannette Nicholson of Hendersonville; one sister: Dot Wright Mabry of Columbia; numerous nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Larry Nicholson, Tony Nicholson, Mark Mabry, Edward Nicholson, Brad Hayes, Mike Mabry, Tim Nicholson and David Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 19, VFW and retired employees of Occidental Chemical Company.
