Mrs. Inez Wyatt ?Granny? Odom, 78, a resident of Phyllis Lane in Columbia, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Odom will be conducted Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Big Sandy, Alabama native was the daughter of the late John Henry and Annie Hixon Wyatt and widow of Lane Odom, Sr. For 32 years, Mrs. Odom owned and operated the Sandwich Shoppe on West Seventh Street in Downtown Columbia. She became known as ?Granny? by customers, friends, daughters-in law, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is well known, she would never let anyone go hungry, someone looking for food with no money, she would feed them in exchange for sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, and such. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Gordon Peggy Nichols of Columbia, TN, Mickey Brenda Nichols of Jacksonville, FL, Lane ?Kenny? Linda Odom of Columbia, TN, and Gary Terrie Odom of Columbus, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Mark Nichols of Columbia, TN, Randy Nichols of Texas, Sabrina Williams of Atlanta, GA, Darren Nichols of Jacksonville, FL, Pennie Clark and Brandy Odom both of Columbia, TN, Mike Tuten of Augusta, GA, Kelley Rowland of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Walt Tuten of Nashville, TN, Jennifer Nance of Tampa, FL, Kelley Odom, Ashley Odom, and Kyle Odom all of Columbus, OH, and Tonya Hughes of Georgia; eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Odom.
Pallbearers will be Darren Nichols, Mark Nichols, Randy Nichols, Michael Nichols, Kyle Odom, Jeff Neighbors, and Walt Tuten.
