Inez Brawner Adams

Mrs. Inez Brawner Adams, 93, a resident of Florida Ave. in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Adams will be conducted Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Jim Walsh officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Born in Nashville, she was the daughter of the late
William Henry and Isla Geer Brawner and wife of the late Eugene Adams. She was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ for over 50 years. She was employed at the Mt. Pleasant Phosphate Museum until last year when she resigned due to failing health. She was one of the oldest workers in the program for the region. Earlier, she worked at the Kiddie Cottage as a cook and meal planner, a seamstress for Weather Tamer, Stork Town and Brewster Shirt Company and did alterations at Sims Department Store. One of her proudest accomplishments was being honored on her 90th birthday by Mayor Willie Boyd, proclaiming May 8, 2003 as Inez Adams Day. In 1995, she and her surviving brothers, Joe and Claude Brawner, published a book of their memories about growing up during the depression.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Adams Hester of Columbia; son, Austin Howell Mary Adams of Nashville; brothers, Joseph H. Brawner and Claude T. Faye Brawner, both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Sharon Dale Les Anderson of Eugene, OR, Natalie Jo Bruce Readett of Knoxville, Christopher Howell Jessica Adams of Smyrna, Audra Marnell Derek Sparkman of Murfreesboro; great grandchildren, Zachary and Emily Readett of Knoxville, Cole Adams of Smyrna and Lillian Sparkman of Murfreesboro; aunt, Katherine Roth Pearce of Nashville; special friend, Dr. Stan Debbie Cusak of Fresno, CA. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Joseph H. Hester; sisters, Eva Brawner Oxford, Nannie Bell Brawner Hanback, Hazel Brawner Cummins, Amy Brawner Cummins; brothers, Orin Brawner and Raymond Brawner..

Pallbearers will be Dory Adams, Bobby Cummins, Tony Brawner, Kenneth Cummins, Sonny Cummins, Randy Brawner, Charles Oxford, Ray Hanback, Bruce Readett, Willie Robb, Derek Sparkman, Ricky Thompson and Jimmy Attkisson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Stan Cusak, Dr. Les Anderson, Jimmy and Irene Dugger, Dr. Cummins Couch, Dr. Thomas Farmer, staff of the Mt. Pleasant Phosphate Museum, Polly Hicks and the former staff of Kiddie Cottage, members of Locust Street Church of Christ and the staff of Rosewood Manor Nursing Home.
