Imogene Overstreet Tate, age 82, a longtime resident of Hickman Street in Columbia, passed away Friday, January 7th, 2011 at Life Care Center of Columbia.
Born June 4th, 1928 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Reeda Hubbell Overstreet and the wife of the late W.S. Tate. A graduate of Haylong High School, Mrs. Tate retired in 2000 as the unit secretary at Maury Regional Medical Center after 29 years and had worked for Dixie Manufacturing for 19 years. She was a member of Mooresville Pike Church of Christ.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Kimberly Tate Cognevich of Columbia and Tim Tate of North Augusta, SC; great grandchildren: Michael D'Anne Waters, Kendell Wessels, Matthew Wessels, Bobby Cognevich and Kortney Cognevich, all of Columbia; a brother: Billy R. Bonnie Overstreet of Nashville. She was preceded in death by a son: Phil Tate; sisters: Audrey Gibson and Alta Gibson; brothers: Amos Overstreet, Pershing Overstreet, Melvin Overstreet Jr. and Myron Overstreet.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tate will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 9th in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Dorris Rader and Bro. Kevin Maxey officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, nieces and their spouses. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mooresville Pike Church of Christ.
