Mrs. Hulda J. Beard

Hulda J. Beard, long time resident of Cherry Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, at NHC Columbia, with her dear family at her side.

Hulda, who was named for her grandmother, was born September 16, 1928 in Maury County, to the late Johnnie Davis and Bertha Anderson Davis, and had just celebrated her 84th birthday. For 34 years, Hulda was a supervisor with Publix Shirt Factory in Columbia. She exhibited the kindness and love of Jesus to all of those with whom she came in contact, with her ever-present smile. Even though Hulda’s life was not always easy, she never complained. She was a very active member of Highland Park Baptist Church and dearly loved the Senior Adult trips, always ready to travel.

Survivors include her daughters, Maxine Grooms, Patricia Bryant and Reba (Andy) Harvey; grandchildren, Thomas H. Bryant, Cristy J. (Roger Mosley) Bryant, Steven R. Kuykendall, Beth (John Carson) Kuykendall, Jennifer (Josh) Hammond, Brent (Kami) Harvey, Joshua Harvey, Tyler (Hillary) Harvey and Allison Harvey; great-grandchildren, Logan H. Bryant, Bryston L. Mosley, Kaylee Kuykendall, Elizabeth and Katlyn Mosley, Kinsley, Maddox, Anna Claire and Mali Hammond, Trace, Kruiz, Lync, Ansley, Taylor, Colin, Lexy, Mason and McKenzie Harvey; two sisters, Myrtle Potts and Ethel Davis and two brothers, Walker (Betty) Davis and Nathaniel (Dick & Dot) Davis; one sister-in-law, Sarah Davis and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Hulda was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Davis, Sanford Davis and Henry (Rose) Davis and sisters, Hattie (Connor) Hanes, Mattie (Horace) Kelley and Edna (Bob) Riley; brother-in-law, J.B. Potts and sons-in-law, Donald Grooms and John Bryant.

Funeral services for Hulda will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Highland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the church.

Pallbearers will be William Potts, John Carson, Jerry Davis, Roger Mosley, Donnie Gene Davis, Arnold Hanes, Kenny Davis, Josh Harvey, Ronnie Kelley and Johnnie Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. W. Wilson Henderson, Mrs. Lee Gynder, Mrs. Nell Fitzgerald, Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church and members of the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
