Hugh L. Phillips, age 77, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Hugh was born on November 17, 1937 to the late Hershell Phillips and the late Vio Jacques Phillips in Jackson County, Tennessee. Hugh married Corene Heath on February 16, 1968. The two just celebrated their forty-seventh wedding anniversary. Hugh received his Master’s in Education and was an Education Specialist. He began teaching in 1972. He taught at Jerry Whitson in Cookeville and Prescott Middle School in Cookeville. Hugh taught for twenty-nine years before retiring in 2001. He loved teaching and was a very dedicated teacher. When he wasn’t teaching Hugh loved spending time with his family, just being with them. Spending time with his grandchildren and pushing them to excel in academics was a priority for him. Hugh was an avid sports fan watching as many football and basketball games as he could. While he loved all teams he was a true Vols fan at heart.
Services for Hugh Phillips will be conducted Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Andrew Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends from Noon until the service hour. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife, Corene Phillips of Columbia, TN; Two daughters: Ramay (Joseph) Noles of Henderson, TN; Shanah Phillips of Antioch, TN; One grandson: Luke Noles of Henderson, TN ; Two granddaughters: Emma and Ella Noles of Henderson, TN .
