Hugh "Frank" Franklin Current

Hugh Franklin “Frank” Current, age 83, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at his residence.

Frank was born on January 11, 1934 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Joseph Allen and Christine Patterson Current. He was married to Barbara Putnam Current who preceded him in death on April 27, 2016. Frank was a patriot who loved his country, and loved the United State Marine Corps in which he served from 1954 until 1956. He was a Marine Recruiter, assisting younger citizens with the decision to join the warriors he was so proud to serve with. He attended King’s Business College and worked in management for transportation companies.

Frank loved his family immensely and worshipped the ground his beloved wife Barbara walked on. He loved cooking for others and taught Barbara to cook as well. His family has fond recollections of his baking cakes, casseroles and many other delicious dishes. He would do things just a little differently each time he made a dish and would say, “I jazzed it up”. He was also a thoughtful man and a giving, generous person. He would find gifts for his friends and acquaintances or prepare and deliver food to them. His daughter called these treasures his “love offerings”. He thought the world of his Sunday School class at First Family Church. Their love, friendship and fellowship got him through the tough time following Barbara’s passing.

Mr. Current is survived by his children: Frankie A. (Steve) Cashion of Smyrna and Joey (Sabrina) Current of Culleoka; grandchildren: Stephanie Cashion, Jamie (Jonathan) Dooley and Jared Cashion; sister: JoNell Huss and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph Allen Current and Christine Patterson Current; and brother: Herman Current.

Funeral services for Frank will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Entombment will follow at the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.

Steve Cashion, Jared Cashion, Jonathan Dooley, Dwight Moore and Tony Cain will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Current’s Sunday School Class at First Family Church.
