Hubert Nichols "Spurgy" Kinzer

Mr. Hubert Nichols ?Spurgy? Kinzer, 82, a resident of Moore Lane in Culleoka, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Columbia Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Kinzer will be conducted Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. J. Daniel Vannoy and Rev. Charles Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Marshall Walter and Margaret Nichols Kinzer and husband of Dorothy Hollis Grooms Paul Kinzer. He was a retired concrete form carpenter with L.S. White Construction. He was ambulance driver with the 135th Medical Regiment in the US Army from Oct. 1942 until Dec. 1945. He served with Gen. McArthur and saw action in New Ginny, Luzon, Manila, Lyte and other Pacific Islands. He was later stationed in Osaka, Japan. During his three years, he received many awards of honor. Mr. Kinzer loved fishing, camping, country music, dancing and watching the Atlanta Braves play.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Tommy Nichols Marsha Kinzer of Columbia; a stepdaughter, Pamela Grooms of Old Hickory, TN; two stepsons, David Mary Grooms of Culleoka and Rusty Grooms of Columbia; two grandsons, Derrick Kinzer of Columbia and John Marshall Kinzer, Jr. of TX; two granddaughters, Allison Kinzer of Columbia and Lisa Kinzer Sironen of KY; six great grandchildren; three step-granddaughters, Crystal Grooms Fox, Jessica Carey Grooms and Leslie Grooms, all of Columbia; a step-grandson, Matt Grooms of Columbia; two sisters, Alberta Carl Kinzer Baker of Williamsport and Nellie Jim Kinzer Underwood Elder of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Dell Goad Kinzer; a son, John Marshall Kinzer; a sister, Dora Height Moore.

Pallbearers will be Terry Blade, Edward Underwood, Jeff Rowland, Robert A. Height, Terry Lester and Houston Baker.
