Howard Houston Love, known to family and friends as Sonny, age 78, died on May 11, 2021, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee. He was born on February 10, 1943, to parents, Houston Walker Love and Ruth Lucille Stanfill Love, in Columbia, Tennessee.
Sonny graduated from Central High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1963, with his twin brother, “Little Sonny” Harold, they both were sent to Germany but stationed at different posts, much to their excitement, they met unexpectedly in a bar in Germany. Sonny served in the army and retired from the Tennessee National Guard with 20 years of service. He was an avid Tennessee VOLS fan who married an avid Crimson Tide fan. “We just didn’t talk about it in October.”
Sonny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ruth E. McDonald- Love, Son: Victor Grant Love; grandchild: Houston Walker Love; siblings: Darlene (Jerry) Kennedy, Barbara (Billy) Garland, Donald (Linda) Love, David Love, Patricia (Mark) Jett, Tony Love, Shirley Love Haywood, Johnny Love, Bobby Love; and twenty-six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother: “Little Sonny” Harold Love; father: Houston Walker Love; mother: Ruth Lucille Stanfill Love.
Services will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, on Thursday, May 13, 2021, starting at 4:00 p.m., with his brother-in-law, Ernie Emmons, of Florence, Alabama, officiating. Visitation will be held before the service from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
