Howard L. Henson

December 22, 1923 — February 17, 2004

Mr. Howard L. Henson, 80, a long-time resident of the Screamer Community near Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville while undergoing treatment.

Funeral services for Mr. Henson will be conducted Thursday, February 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Randy Kersey and Park Boshears officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Hill Cemetery with military honors being provided the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post # 10. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late James Buford and Vivian McMillion Henson. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Henson was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre during the invasion of Luzon. He served in the Battery ?A? 147 FA Battalion as a CPL Radio Advancement Communications. He was wounded on Luzon Island in January of 1945. He received the Bronze Star Medal and 2 battle Stars. He also received the Purple Heart with campaign ribbons for Sarmi, New Guinea, Moemfoor Island, and Luzon. He was discharged from Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, Georgia with 100 % disability. He was issued the lapel button ERC for the Pacific Theatre Operations, the Phillipine Liberation Campaign Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by two sisters, Christine John Orban of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Isia P. Rhodes of Pulaski, TN; He has several nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Ohio, Oregon, North Carolina, and Louisiana. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.
