Howard Cheatham

Mr. Howard Cheatham, age 74, a resident of Hampshire Pike in Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Cheatham will be conducted Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. David Davidson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Joseph L and Mamie Estelle Davidson Cheatham and the husband of Loretha Scott Cheatham. Mr. Cheatham worked for the United States Postal Service from 1959 to 1988 and upon his retirement, he was the postmaster of the Hohenwald Post Office. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Legion Post 19 and the Cathey?s Creek Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Scott LaQuita Cheatham of Columbia; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Cheatham and Bradley Scott Cheatham, both of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Jeweldean Cheatham of Stiversville, Margaret Scott Smithson of Centerville and Mrs. Fred Audrey Scott of Columbia; brother-in-law, J.W. Audrey Scott of Columbia; special caregiver, Mary Simmons of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Lee ?Bill? Cheatham, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Mike Smithson, Don Smithson, Tony Scott, Dan Hunter, Hal Haywood and Randy Cheatham. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Cathey?s Creek Church of Christ, past & present co-workers of the Columbia and Hohenwald USPS. Dr. Charles Ball, Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, Dr. John P.W. Brown and the Columbia Central High School class of 1950 members and spouses.
Memorials may be made to the Cathey?s Creek Church of Christ Building Fund, 4418 Stephenson Road, Hampshire, TN.
