Hortense “Susan” Emler Mayberry, age 85 of Columbia, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Hortense was born December 14, 1927 in Hampshire to the late Harvey and Mae Gibson Emler. She was the wife of the late Tom Ab Mayberry. Mrs. Mayberry was a member of the Beech Hill Church of Christ. Most of her days were spent gardening, looking for the best antiques, and stopping at several yard sales. The family shared that her most important title was being a mother and making a comfortable home for everyone. Her “best” desserts will truly be missed by all those lucky enough to enjoy them.
The family invites their friends to visit in the Iris Room at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 in the evening. Services will follow Sunday, June 23, 2013 in the chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Hueston Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Mayberry, Tommy Mayberry and Pam Mayberry(Peter) Fisackerly; one grandson: Brandon Mayberry; Brother-in-law: Rev. Argine Hughes and sister-in-law: Minnie Emler Fisher. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Prentice Emler and Willie Mae Hughes.
Friends and family will serve as the pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Beech Hill Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials in her name to be made to the Beech Hill Church of Christ.
The family wanted to extend their gratitude for the extraordinary care and compassion received from Maury Regional Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing Unit, Stepdown, and Hospice Compassus.
