Mr. Homer E. Wiley, age 85, a resident of Alpine Drive in Columbia, passed away on Sunday, August 9th, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Wiley will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Jeff Jacob and Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Army National Guard.

The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:00 PM.

Born June 23, 1924 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Ellis and Elizabeth Nichols Wiley and husband of June Kindred Wiley, to whom he was married to for 60 years. Mr. Wiley was retired from Dupont Corporation and served 29 years in the U.S. Military in the 2nd Infantry division with the rank of Sgt. Major. After his discharge from active duty, Mr. Wiley served with the Army National Guard in Centerville until 1984, holding the rank of First Sgt. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, where he served as past master and was a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #257. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended the Ayers Whitney Sunday School class.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Joe A. Debbie Wiley of Columbia and Tim W. Wiley of Lebanon, TN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister: Ann Stevens and a brother: William Wiley.

Pallbearers will be Bob Stewart, Joe Smith, Bobby Long, Harold Rucker, Joe Mayberry and Billy Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Hight Sr., Clyde Aaron, John Lynch, Neal Giles, John Wheeler, Paul Burns, Grady Jenkins, Willie Powers, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Dr. Thomas Dake, Ayers Whitney Fellowship Sunday School class, retirees of Dupont and Spontex, National Guard members, Ray Burt, Cleburn Marston and Tommy Carroll.
