Herman Wilson Barnett, Sr.

March 5, 1916 — February 4, 2009

Mr. Herman Wilson Barnett, Sr., age 92, a long time resident of Williamsport Pike, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Maury Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Barnett will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Gene Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until time of the service at 2:00 P.M.

The Lawrence County native was the son of the late William Avery and Rosa Lee Littrell Barnett. He was the husband of the late Pauline Adams Barnett who preceded him in death on April 6, 2004. Mr. Barnett retired from the maintenance department of Monsanto Chemical Company where he was employed from 1945 – 1985. During his youth he was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps. He was a member of the Grace Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his children: Miss Edith Faye Barnett and Wilson Jane Barnett, Jr., both of Columbia; two sisters: Geneva Baker Roberts of Mt. Pleasant and Gladys Marie Marinos of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Jonathan Wilson LeeAnn Barnett of Spring Hill, Jamie Myers Barnett of Columbia, David Matthew Barnett of Collierville, and Lori Jane Sean Daniels of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren: Grason Barnett, Emma Barnett, Hunter, Jacob & Grace Hisaw. He was preceded in death by sisters: Mamie Irene Barnett, Clethel Hollis and Louise Boyd and brothers: William Hershel Barnett and James Hollis Barnett.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Barnett, Jamie Barnett, David Barnett, J.C. Barnett, Doug Baker, Russell Cothran and David Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of Monsanto Chemical Co.
