Herman Lee “Pete” Staggs, age 67, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on November 26, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Pete was born on April 13, 1947, in Columbia, Tennessee and was the son of Dellie Lucille “Hootie” Ragsdale (Harvey) Hughes. He was married to Vicki Akins Staggs for twenty three years. Pete worked as a fork lift operator for fifteen years at Union Carbide, hauling materials for them. He later worked for a contractor building houses. He also was a wonderful craftsman when it came to building furniture. Pete had a strong work ethic and always wanted to do the job the right way. He was known to study a piece of furniture, for instance, then take it all the way apart and start over so that it would be absolutely perfect and the way he felt it should be.
He had an irreverent and unique sense of humor. If he were joking with someone or picking on them, the madder they got, the funnier he felt the joke was. By the same token, he didn’t mind laughing when it came to himself either. For instance, his family believes that if he were still here today, he would say something like, “Well, I guess I won’t be making that chemo appointment on Thursday”.
Pete believed he was born to be a grandparent. His grandchildren were the light of his life and his world; and he spent as much time as possible with them.
Mr. Staggs is survived by his wife: Vicki Staggs of Mt. Pleasant; children: Daniel Staggs of Summertown; Rachel Lucille Beech of Mt. Pleasant and Ryan (Sara) Staggs of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren: Brailee Newcomb, Heleyna Holt, Camden Staggs, Jarrett Beech, Austin Beech, and Sam Beech; brother: Sherman Staggs of Mt. Pleasant; brothers-in-law: Johnny (Ellen) Akins and Sam Akins; long-time friends: Mike and Kay Humphries; uncle: Bubby (Carolyn) Ragsdale. He was preceded in death by his mother: Lucille Ragsdale.
