Herman Clay Hopwood age 78, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, in Columbia, Tennessee surrounded by family.
A service for Clay will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee with Richard Vancleave officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. Clay will be laid to rest at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
Clay was born on November 11, 1944, in Marshall County, Tennessee to the late Addie and Bessie Hopwood.
Clay was a long-time resident of Marshall and Maury County. He was also a long-time member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Clay served his country with great pride in the United States Army. He served with the 148th Military Police Mobile Platoon of the 18th Brigade in Vietnam. He was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran. He loved the time he spent serving his country. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 19 of Columbia, Tennessee
Clay is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Claude Hopwood, Dayton Hopwood, Gail Hopwood, Odel Hopwood, and Billy Hopwood; and sisters: Betty Gean Hopwood Clifford, Virginian Aline Hopwood George, and Dorothy Hopwood Owens.
Clay is survived by his loving wife: Judy Hopwood; daughters: Linda (John) Carlen, Renee (Jake) Jacobs; grandchildren: Tyler Mobbs and Cassidi Jones; great-grandson: Clay Nolen; a host of several nieces and nephews and son-in-love Brian Jones.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice Compassus for the love and care over the years for Mr. Clay.
Pallbearers will be Brian Jones, Jake Jacobs, Tim Clark, Tyler Mobbs, Steve Jones, Calvin Nolen, and David George.
