Herman E. Grose, age 89 passed away on October 24, 2016 in Houston, TX.
Herman was born Feb 25, 1927, in Lewis County’s Mt. Joy community. He was a Seabee in WWII who witnessed the atomic bomb tests in the Pacific. He traveled extensively with the Navy. Herman later worked in San Francisco with the scientist who conducted the post exposure experiments following the Bikini detonations. After serving with the United Sates Navy, he returned to Tennessee, married and eventually settled in Houston, TX in 1956. He worked at The Port Terminal Railroad for 40 years and 5 days before retiring to play babysitter to his first grandson. He was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
Herman is survived by his wife, Nadine, sons: Douglas and David (Nella); Daughter, Michele Brooks (Larry); granddaughters: Holly Main (Aaron), Wendy Haslund (Matthew), Amanda Allen and Sarah Browning; grandsons: Killian Brooks and Keenan Brooks; great grandchildren: Angelikha, Lerlene, Christen, Isaiah and Julianna Haslund, and Kaiden Main; brother: Ferrell Grose. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman is preceded in death by his mother and father, Nancy McClain and Joseph Grose; siblings: Knox Elmer Grose, Bernice Octavia Grose Matlock, Alieen Grose Brown, Mary Louise Grose, Edward L Grose, Ferris C Grose, Glenn O. Grose and Katherine Juanita "Kitty" Henson.
Graveside service for Herman will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00AM at McClain Cemetery in the Mt. Joy community in Tennessee. It will be officiated by Brother Joe Meadows.
