Herbert Clyde Manning

Herbert Clyde Manning, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, February 22, at Mt. Pleasant Health & Rehab surrounded by his loved ones.

Herbert was born September 8, 1931, in Pulaski, TN, the son of the late O.W. Manning and Lucy Emma Howell Manning. In 1949, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he met his future wife, Maria T. Lapadula. They married on July 25, 1953. He was retired from the United Sates Army, serving both in Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement, Herbert worked as a security guard at Maury Regional Medical Center and most recently was a salesman for Kentec. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Maria T. Manning of Mt. Pleasant; four sons, William F. (Brenda) Manning, Richard E. Manning, Thomas V. (Debra) Manning and Dennis (Jerrie) Manning, and two daughters, Dolly Attkisson and Lisa Manning; one brother, David Hyatt and one sister, Barbara (Robert) Earls. He was affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Lacy (Justin) Wood, Jenny (Sawyer) Greene, Elayne Fralix, Mindy (Phillip) Counts, Breanna (Dewayne) Gray, Brennan (Tonya) Dugger, Matthew Manning, Gail Manning, Jeremy Beard, Thomas (Kat) Manning, Jr., Michael Manning and Andrea Manning; great-grandchildren, Karsen, Braxton, Lane, Leah, Eli, Ryan, Kayne, Kallee, Taittumn, Kiana, Landon, Ryan, Carson, Shelbie, Kyson, Kylin, Cayden, Faith, Adreanna, Hunter and Caleb and one great-great-granddaughter, Isabella. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Christina Manning and son-in-law, Jimmy Attkisson.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Frank Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Army. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Manning, Ricky Manning, Dennis Manning, Brennan Dugger, David Hyatt, Sawyer Greene, Jeremy Beard, Tony Manning, Jr., Matthew Manning and Michael Manning. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Earls and the staff of Mt. Pleasant Shell Station and all his many friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Stella Runions, Debbie Whitwell, Katelyn Boshers, Elayne Fralix, Mary Arms, Breanna Gray and Tonya Mercer; the staff at Mt. Pleasant Health & Rehab and NHC Hillview.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Community Church in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.
