Henry (Gene Christian) Higgason, age 87, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, TN went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Friday, October 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Gene loved the Lord, his family and his music. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Henry Higgason and the late Vera Mayree Tallman, Gene’s roots were in country and bluegrass music, so much so that in 2008 he was inducted into the bluegrass hall of fame under the stage name Gene Christian, for being a pioneer of bluegrass music. He played with artists such as Bill Monroe, and the great Hank Williams, Sr. Gene had one of the first bluegrass bands in south FL. He won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout show in the 50‘s, and for winning played on the show for a week straight. Besides being an award winning musician he had a love of the “Old West” and once was offered a job at a Wild West re-enactment town to play a look alike for Buffalo Bill Cody. Gene was not just a musician and entertainer, but a loving father who gave all his children their love for music.
In the midst of a blooming career Gene still managed to have time for his family, he raised 5 children playing the music he loved. He also served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member at Lighthouse Ministries in Summertown, TN.
