Henry Duarte

November 9, 1939 — December 4, 2003

Mr. Henry Duarte, 64, a resident of Redwood Circle in Columbia, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital.

The Funeral Mass for Mr. Duarte will be recited Monday, December 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Reverend Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with full military honors being provided by the Tennessee State Guard in Nashville, Tennessee. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home.

The San Antonio, Texas native was the son of the late Joe and Eva Reglow Duarte. He was the husband of Helga Passler Duarte of Columbia. He is retired from the U.S. Army and union Carbide Corporation as a heavy equipment operator. He formerly drove a wrecker for Gray?s Wrecker Service and was currently a counselor for the Magnolia Academy. He was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Having served our country during the Vietnam Era, he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, and the Good Conduct Medal 1st-5th Awards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rita Terry Jenkins of Lynnville, TN and Anita Gordon of Mt. Pleasant, TN; a son-in-law, David Bridgeforth of Mt. Pleasant, TN; three grandchildren, Christina Jenkins and Nickki Jenkins both of Lynnville, TN, and Damien Gordon of Mt. Pleasant, TN; two sisters, Mary Duarte and Leticia Duarte both of San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Joe Duarte and Robert Duarte both of San Antonio, TX; a sister-in-law, Maria Alderson of the Water Valley Community.

Pallbearers will be Michael Alderson, Ricky Alderson, Danny Alderson, Spence Alderson, Ronald Watchmaker, Charles Adams, Charles Perry, Arthur Dinkins, Tony Martin, Lee Mesler, John Lewis, and Fred Otey. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Union Carbide Corporation and students of Magnolia Academy.
