Mr. Henry Allen Steinman, Jr., 75, formerly of Monroe, Michigan and a resident of Troy Lane in Hohenwald, died Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Steinman will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Jim Henning officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Out-of-state services will be held at the Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe, Michigan with inurnment in United Memorial Cemetery in Canton, Michigan.
Henry was born in Monroe, Michigan, His parents are the late Henry and Ester Van Slambrouck Steinman. Henry graduated from Monroe High School in 1949 and served four years attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He served in both Enid, Oklahoma and Harlington, Texas. He married Betty Jo Grim Steinman on June 7, 1953 and moved back to Monroe, Michigan where he worked from 1955 until 1994 for the City of Monroe. He was a member of the Monroe Knights of Columbus and the Big Brothers Program in which he was president in 1970. He also helped with the Creation of the Orange Dorr a city of Monroe sponsored teen center. He also served on the Monroe Bicentennial Commission and the local Easter Seals for crippled children?s program. He and his wife founded St. Michael?s We Care Program in Monroe to help assist children to receive transplants and the International Cake Society in 1976. Mr. Steinman was a former employee of Mrs. Betty Bush at McDonalds of Hohenwald. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Sharon Steinman of Stevensville, MI, Kathy Mike Bowman of Howell, MI, Nancy Turner of Monroe, MI, Carrie Tom Reinhard of Columbia, TN, Beth Bryce Hill of Tulsa, OK, and Henry Allen Steinman, III of Hanahan, NC; fourteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrie Lynn in 2000; two sisters, Hester Beaudry and Lillian Grant.
