Mrs. Helen Ruth Scarbrough May, age 81, passed away on Sunday, July 26, at Life Care Center in Columbia.

Funeral services and burial for Mrs. May will be conducted in Brentwood, MD.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

Helen was born on January 25, 1928. She was one of seven children born to the late William Earl Scarbrough and Eveleen V. Canter Scarbrough of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Helen was the wife of the late Roy E. May who preceded her in death on May 15, 1989. Helen was retired from Bellsouth and was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church.

Helen moved to Washington DC during WW II where she worked for the US Government. She loved attending the USO dances with her sister Veronica. Helen had a reputation for being a great cook and loved to entertain.

Survivors include her sisters: Veronica Fryer of Columbia and Nancy Eddie Behner of Dallas, TX .a sister-in-law: Peggy Scarbrough of Hollywood, FL and brother-in-law: Eddie LaLonde of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In her own words, Helen said she never had any children but had "lots of kids." She is survived by two nieces in Columbia TN: Diane Jack Corbin and Helen Ussery, along with 31 other nieces and nephews, and 167 great and great great nieces and nephews scattered throughout Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. Helen is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Shirley Greene of Hampshire TN.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Florence Jack Feeney, Frank Lewis Scarbrough, Patricia LaLonde and Tom Scarbrough.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maury Co. Animal Shelter, Columbia TN.
