Mrs. Helen Nichols Thomas, age 87, resident of Andalusia, AL, passed away on Friday, January 8, at Florala Nursing Facility in Andalusia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Keahey Funeral Home in Andalusia with Rev. Tim Trent officiating. Burial will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family with the local arrangements.
Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of the late George and Ima Chesser Nichols and wife of the late John L. Thomas and the late Robert W. Farley. She owned and operated Farley Roofing with her first husband until his death. She later married Mr. Thomas and operated Thomas Market. She belonged to many organizations, was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. Mrs. Thomas was very active in the First United Methodist Church in Columbia and Andalusia, where she was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class and attended Wednesday Night Bible Studies, a member of the UMW and Young at Heart. She received her Masters Degree from Peabody in Nashville and taught school in AL, FL, IL and TN, with the last 25 years in Columbia.
Survivors include a brother: Byron Dewitt Betty Nichols of Andalusia, AL; step-son: Frank Barbara Thomas of Columbia; step-grandchildren: Betina Green and Steve Thomas; step-great grandchildren: Chamberlain Green and Zachary Thomas; nieces: Connie Seale and Penny Gregson; nephew: Larry Nichols; sister-in-law: Mary Lou Nichols of Red Level, AL; special friends: Frances Hattaway and Emogene Parham. She was preceded in death by a brother: Jackie Nichols
