Mrs. Helen Louise Brandon Anthony, an educator and loving mother, was born March 6, 1925 in Columbia, the daughter of the late William and Fannie Martin Brandon. Helen was the wife of the late Wiley Anthony, Sr.
Mrs. Anthony was a graduate of Tennessee State University and taught in the Maury County School system for 37 years beginning her career in 1951 at Pleasant Union Community School. From 1952 – 1954 she taught at Godwin Community School, 1958 – 1962 at Harlan Community School and from 1962 – 1969 at College Hill. From 1969 – 1988 Mrs. Anthony taught at Highland Park Elementary where she retired in May 1988. She was a member of the Eighth Street Church of God in Columbia of which her father, William Brandon, was one of the original founders. She was a member of both the Maury County Education Association and Tennessee Education Association.
Survivors include her sons: William R. Carolyn Anthony of Nashville and Wiley Anthony Jr. of Columbia; a sister: Elizabeth Greene of Indianapolis, IN; devoted granddaughter and caretaker: Robin Anthony of Columbia; devoted grandchildren: Chris Rene Anthony, William Anthony II, Brandon Anthony, Torrance Anthony, Benjamin Anthony and Brian Winfrey, all of Nashville; devoted great grandchildren: Whitley Capri Burkeen, Jada Chris Anthony and Brionna Christian; son-in-law: Jermaine Baines of Nashville; devoted nephew and niece: William Z. Whittaker, Sr. and Shirlene Brandon Cooper, both of Columbia; along with a host of other nieces and nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Gloria Frances Anthony and Cheryl Anthony Baines; several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Anthony passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with David Williams, Jr. officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
