Mrs. Helen Chappell Douglas, age 88, resident of Locust Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Hidden Acres Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Douglas will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Phillip Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Friday at Williams Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

Born April 29, 1922 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Minnie Boshers Chappell. She was the wife of the late Hugh J. Douglas, Jr. She was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She did beautiful crocheting and loved all kinds of sewing. She was an excellent cook. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Jeff Graham of Columbia and Carol Joe Holden of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Lawrence Douglas of Mt. Pleasant; Grandchildren, Richie Graham, Brian Graham, Hugh John Vicki Graham, William Eve Holden and Helen Derek Boyd; Great-grandchildren, Anna Graham, Sam Boyd, Lillie Kate Holden, Claire Boyd and Caroline Holden; and Great-great-grandchildren, Christopher Lemmings and Ryan Lemmings; and a sister, Ruth Dean Murrell. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Davis and Effie Curtis and four brothers, Elmer, Maury, Allie and William Chappell.

Active pallbearers will be Richie Graham, Brian Graham, Hugh John Graham, William Holden, Derek Boyd and Tommy Davis.
