Mrs. Hazel Celeste Norton Burroughs, 91, a resident of West 15th Street in Columbia, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burroughs will be conducted Monday, January 2, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Jim Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and Monday from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
Born in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Minnie Rushing Norton and widow of J.E. Burroughs. She was an LPN for 30 years at Maury County Hospital and a graduate of the first nursing class at the hospital. She was a gardener, painter, accomplished seamstress for her family, loved watching golf and very independent in all of her activities. She was known and quoted by many friends as the ?sweetest woman that they ever knew?. She was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Ronnie Sarah Burroughs of Columbia; a daughter, Phyllis Bill Gregg of Nashville; three grandsons, Keith Kim Burroughs of Mt. Pleasant, Kendall Burroughs of Columbia and Taggart Irwin of Seattle, WA; four great grandchildren, Brandon Burroughs and Derriyn Burroughs, both of Columbia, Hadley Brennan and Caitlin Brennan, both of Nashville; sisters-in-law, Rosalee Hudson of Winchester and Rachel Burroughs of Lawrenceburg; several nieces and nephews; other family members: Julie Payne Darriyn?s mother and Nina Luffman Brandon?s mother. She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Mickle.
Pallbearers will be Bob Jacoby, Taggart Irwin, Keith Burroughs, Kendall Burroughs, Brandon Burroughs and Bill Gregg. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church.
