Mr. Harry “Red” Jones Allen passed away at his residence in Santa Rosa County, Florida on January 21, 2013.
Harry was born on January 11, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to John Harvey and Tempie Rochelle Allen who precede him in death. He was born into a large family being one of 6 children. He served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Allen’s Barber Shop for 50 years in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Allen is survived by his daughter: Pamela (Billy) Harrelson; grandchildren: Michael (Ann) Gambrell and Amy (Jeff) Miller; great-grandchildren: Samantha Gambrell, Ashley Gambrell, Ashley Miller, Riley Miller; Siblings: Jimmy Allen, Jerry Allen, Allison Allen and Steve Allen; numerous nieces and nephews who were much beloved; and his beloved friend: Margaret Aymett. In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his sister: Nancy Allen.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. David Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with Military Honors being provided by the American Legion Herbert Griffin Post 19. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Harry’s nephews: Richard Allen, Mickey Allen, Danny Allen, Gary Allen, Michael Allen and Ronnie Allen will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Hayes, Larry Nance, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Judge Jim T. Hamilton and Shanty Roy.
