Harold Skinner, age 82, a resident of the Crossroads Community, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.
Harold was born on June 27, 1937 in Lawrence County, Tennessee to Kirby C. Skinner and Elvia Braswell Skinner. He spent nearly 60 years with the love of his life, Vernie Mae Fincher Skinner, who he married on December 23, 1960. Harold was a devoted Christian and worshiped at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church faithfully, and he loved each member of the congregation.
Harold was an extremely talented carpenter who worked in sheet metal, new construction, and remodeling homes throughout southern middle Tennessee. He had many projects that he adored, but he loved to let everyone know that he built the sign at Sundown Drive-In Theater in Columbia, painting the Rattle & Snap Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, and hand painting the carousel that was located at Opryland in Nashville. Retirement did not slow him down as he picked up many different hobbies like raising his garden of fruits and vegetables, finding uses for his John Deere tractor, and tending to the land he lived on all of his life. He also managed Skinner’s Market with his wife, during the 1980’s.
Harold leaves behind his wife to cherish his memory, Vernie Mae Fincher Skinner; his children, Jeff (Paula) Skinner, Rhonda Skinner, Amy (Troy) Kelsey, Drew (Andrea) Russ, and Samantha (Kevin Walker) Skinner; his grandchildren that made him a Pawpaw, Hope (Jamie) Norwood, Andrew (Kerry Boshers) Skinner, Tyler Fincher, Alissa (Kade) Skinner, Justin (Kelly) Sias, Braly Sias, Kane Russ, Judd Russ, Jetta Russ, Mackenzie Walker, and Bryce Walker; great grandchildren, Erica Haddock, Carter Fincher, Elvie Norwood, and Lucas Fincher; siblings, Vanita (Ernest) Stockard, Doris (Don) Eaton, Glenda Howell, Larry (Kathy) Skinner, Barbara (Kenneth) Lopp; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Dewayne) Lopp and Carolyn (Bud) Smith; and several step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and his beloved dog, Neely.
Harold’s family will visit with friends from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2020 in the Chapel of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Leoma. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM with Jonathan Price and Tim Scott officiating. He will be laid to rest in Crossroads Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Skinner, Tyler Fincher, Justin Sias, Braly Sias, Kevin Walker, Kade Skinner, and Jamie Norwood.
Harold’s family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg Emergency Room, the Critical Care Unit at Maury Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care, and Jeff’s coworkers at Wilbert Vault in Lawrenceburg.
