Guy Albert Lance, age 86, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022, in Duck River, Tennessee.
Guy was born June 16, 1936, to the late Harry Lance and Isobel Hopkins Lance in St. Johns, Michigan.
At a young age, Guy felt a deep calling to serve his country in the Navy. He was acknowledged for his bravery on many dangerous missions, receiving commendations and awards for his valor and devotion. Guy worked for the U.S. Navy as Chief Diesel Mechanic and dedicated 20 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Tennessee Valley Branch 44 FRA, a fraternal organization comprised of Reserve, retired, and honorably discharged Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel. As well as enjoying practicing with his Barbershop Quartet, Guy practiced relentlessly with his team for shows and organizations to make sure everything went perfectly. They are members of the Capital City Chordsman of Lansing, Michigan.
Guy was known as the jokester, “Goofy Guy”, as his mother would call him. His good humor and wholesome personality could make anyone crack a smile. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, Guy is also preceded in death by nine of his siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marlene Lance; sons: Dale (Cindy) Lance and Kevin (Lori) Lance; grandchildren: Kory Lance and Kari Lance; and brother: Ernest (Maxine) Lance; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home – Osgood Chapel in St. John, MI, on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 2:00 PM, with one hour of visitation prior. To follow, Mr. Guy Lance will be laid to rest at Fairfield Township Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan.
