Mrs. Guster Roseanner “Coot” Smith, age 91, of Summertown, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab.
Guster was born on May 20, 1923 in Lawrence County, Tennessee to the late Frank Boyd Bailey and Willie Andrews Bailey. She was married to Samuel Clarence Smith who also preceded her in death. For twenty-five years Coot worked as a janitor at Summertown High School. However, her calling was really in loving and caring for children, especially her own. However, she “raised” many children in Summertown while babysitting them. All of them called her MawMaw, and no matter how long they had been grown up and out of her tender care, they always wanted to go back for MawMaw’s breakfast. Her cooking was the best, especially her biscuits and chocolate gravy.
Coot is survived by her beloved children: Carolyn Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Kay (Larry) Smith of Summertown, Samuel Frank (Linda) Smith of Linden and Rosalie (Larry) Franks of Hohenwald; grandchildren: Beverly Smith, Vanessa (Brent) Kilpatrick, Leslie Franks (Cody) Mathis, Jamie Franks; step-grandson: Chris Krueger; great-grandchildren: Trevor Hines and Morgan Kilpatrick; sister: Verlie Tucker of Summertown. She is preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Willie Andrews Bailey; husband: Samuel Clarence Smith; sister: Mae Jacobi, Lorene Castle, Ruby Nell Curtis; and brother: Paul Bailey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Howard Kitter officiating. Burial will follow in the Summertown Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, December 13 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Timothy B. Bailey, Chris Krueger, Rodney Curtis, Mark Curtis, Randy Curtis and Micah Tucker will serve as pallbearers. The staff at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Abigail’s Plan (a non-profit organization to assist special needs children), at 5 Will Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee 38464.
