Grover Cleveland English II, G.C., Geek, The Bear, of Enterprise, Mt. Pleasant, died suddenly Tuesday night, Feb. 11th. Mr. English was 86 years old. He was the 7th of 9 children of the late state senator, Capt. Tom and Mrs. Elizabeth Miss Betty Nelson English of Maury County. Geek is survived by his daughters, Jan and Laurie, a son-in-law, two honorary daughters, his ex-wife, his baby brother, Jim of Nashville, his sister-in-law, Sue English of Enterprise, his first cousin, Bobby Wilhite of Columbia, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and their youngins. G.C. was a member of the Hay Long High School class of 1940 and an alumnus of Cumberland University in Lebanon where he studied law. Mr. English was a veteran of the Second World War. Geek was married to Joan Marie Steve and together they had 3 children. He lived for many years in the Tampa area of Florida where he worked in the phosphate mines, as a chemist for Florida Portland Cement Co., and ran his own yard business. He was proud to be a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. O. Box 30, Shingletown, CA 96088. Visitation will be Friday, February 27, 2009, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Folks are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 pm Saturday, February 28, at the Enterprise Methodist Church and to join the family afterwards at the Community Center. G.C. is survived by his two daughters, Jan L. English of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Laurie Beth English and her betrothed, Philippe Chope of Columbia, Tennessee; the mother of his children, Joan Steve Huff of Salem, Oregon; his brother, Jim English of Nashville, Tennessee; his sister-in-law, Sue English of Enterprise; his first cousin, Robert Wilhite, Sr. of Columbia, Tennessee; two honorary daughters including Sandra Hice of Gainesville, Florida; four honorary granddaughters; many beloved nephews, nieces, second cousins, and all their youngins; and some very good friends.
