Gregory Spence Layne

Gregory “Greg” Spence Layne, age 58, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in Columbia, Tennessee.

Gregory was born on March 25, 1964, to Jean Ann Dodson Layne and the late Edward “Earl” Layne in Columbia, Tennessee.

Lovingly known as “Buzzsaw” by friends, but known as “Greg” to all.

He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. He used his education to start his own business, Nashville Disc Image, where he made it possible to record music.

For Greg, music was life. From a young age, music was a way for Greg to express himself and feel a sense of freedom. He loved the classics, like Rush and Led Zeppelin, and inspired by these bands Greg took up playing guitar. Once he honed in on his craft, he found a couple of other individuals that shared the same passion and that’s how “Idaho Beach House” was born. The rest is history, Greg lived his life moved by music and shared his soul with the world around him through his sound. His passion and soul will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother; children: Haylee (Garrett Winkle) Layne, and Spencer Layne; and brother: Keith (Cindy) Layne.

In addition to his father, Greg is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Layne Moore; paternal grandparents: Lester and Velma Layne; and maternal grandparents: Bernard and Ruth Dodson.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 3:00 PM in Blevins Halls at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Come join the family in support of honoring Greg’s life.
