Grace Mae Gilliam

Mrs. Grace Mae Carpenter Gilliam, age 100, a long time resident of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, December 6, at Life Care Center in Columbia.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gilliam will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Robertson, Rev. William Shelton and Rev. Charles Blythe officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 5:00 ? 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

A native of Giles Co., Mrs. Gilliam was the daughter of the late A.H. Carpenter and Cora Martin Shrader Carpenter. She was the widow of the late Thomas A. Gilliam who preceded her in death on October 13, 1973. She was a 1928 graduate of Campbellsville High School and attended Draughan?s Business College. She was a former employee of Carter Shoe Factory in Nashville and TKM in Columbia. Mrs. Gilliam was an avid hat collector enjoyed working puzzles and reading. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Columbia.

Survivors include one son, Monty Laura Gilliam of Columbia; one brother: George Mary Ruth Carpenter of Columbia; two sisters: Mildred Sargent of Columbia and Maudie Sargent of Anderson, IN; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Bill Duncan, Bill Gunnell, Bill Reischman, Bill Sargent, Bill Yancey, Ed Carpenter, Mike King and Wayne Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Harris, Bill Landers, C.H. Hutcherson, Ron Sargent, Dean Sargent, Bill Clark, Carl Duncan, Arnold Williams, Gene Pigg, Arch Patterson, Scottie Vandiver, Darryl Shuff, Mary Ellen Cellan, Sandy West, Betty Gunnell, Frances Shelton, Pam Sealey, Shirley Owen, Larry Yeager, Paul Carpenter and employees of Williams Funeral Home and Polk Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1100 South High Street, Columbia, TN 38401.
