Glen Howard Grimes, Command Sergeant Major, US Army, retired, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at his residence in Savannah, Tennessee.

Glen was born on December 19, 1934, in Waynesboro, Tennessee to Claude W. and Gladys Crews Grimes. He married Margaret Joyce Peacock on December 27, 1962. Hero, husband, and father are all titles that accurately describe Glen. He was a decorated career Army retiree, having been awarded the Silver Star for Valor. This medal is only awarded to servicemen for gallantry in action and is the third highest military honor given. He was also awarded the Legion of Merit and two Bronze Stars for Gallantry. Throughout his 26-year career, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and one tour in Korea. Glen was very creative, he loved to garden and work with his hands.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Joyce, of the home; three daughters: Margaret Glenee’ Jones and husband, David, of Murfreesboro; Brenda Kay Walker and husband, Frank, of Lawton, Oklahoma; Tresa Gaye Stader, and husband Matt, of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; six grandchildren: Brandon Walker and wife Kayla of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Molly Walker Alonzo and husband, Casey, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Link Taylor of Waynesboro, Carston Taylor of Murfreesboro, Ryan Stader of, Hawaii, and Haven Holt and husband Cody, of Lawrenceburg; two great-granddaughters: Zoey and Finley Alonzo of Lawton, Oklahoma; two brothers: Gene Grimes of Jackson, Tennessee, and Bruce Grimes, and wife, Pat, of Tuscumbia, Alabama: one sister, Frances Kelly, of Fayetteville, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Flora Lacher, of Waynesboro, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Claude and Gladys Grimes; and siblings: Margaret Gallagher, Walter (Bud) Grimes, Jim Grimes, Louise Oswalt, and Annette Grimes. Glen was of the Church of Christ faith.

A graveside service to celebrate is life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 3018 at 10:00 a.m. at Waynesboro Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro, Tennessee with military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard.
