Gerald Spangler, age 94, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, in Waynesboro, Tennessee. He was born on September 15, 1927, in Akron, Ohio to the late Julius and May Spangler.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Gerald worked as a car salesman for Klaben Dodge. Everyone knew him as “Spanky”. He even had a special coat with his name embroidered on the back and wore it with pride. At a young age, he proudly served our country by enlisting in the Navy and served in WWII.
His most cherished times were sitting around a table with family playing cards and scratching off lottery tickets. And many family members knew if you didn’t keep a close eye on him, he would get a little carried away with the home shopping network and before you knew it, his doorstep would be piled high with boxes of things he probably didn’t need but brought him joy.
He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his children: John “Buzz” (Eva) Spangler, Patricia Crim, Paula (John) Wheeler, Linda (David) Holt, and Kathy Warrington; brother: John “Joe” O’Dell; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gerald is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elpha J. Pigg Spangler; son: Gerald “Butch” (Nancy) Spangler; sister: Margie Flesher; brothers: Richard “Dick” Spangler and Donald “Don” Spangler.
There will be a graveside service on June 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Cypress Inn, TN. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
The care of Gerald and his family has been entrusted to the staff of Williams Funeral Home.
