Geneva Gilliam Holden

April 17, 1917 — July 2, 2004

Mrs. Geneva Gilliam Holden, 87, a resident of Ricketts Mill Rd. in Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

A celebration of her life will be conducted Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Reverend Phillip Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Claude H. and Annie Mae Wilburn Gilliam. She was the wife of the late William Bryant Holden, who died July 2, 1962. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, an avid gardener and she loved the land. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and a faithful member of the J.B. Smith Sunday School Class.

She is survived by three sons, Billy Polly Holden, Larry Doyce Holden and Joe Carol Holden, all of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Michael Lydia Holden of Summertown, Lisa Scott Greene of Columbia, William Eve Holden, Helen Derek Boyd and Randy Angie Holden, all of Mt. Pleasant; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Wildes of Hermitage; a brother, Joe Rachel Gilliam of Mt. Pleasant; six sister-in-laws, Marie Holden and Opal Holden, both of Hampshire, Susie Church and Elise Flowers, both of Columbia, Alice Garner and Mary Ann Gilliam, both of Mt. Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Ross Holden of Mt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Claudye Mae King and Christine Carter and a brother, George H. Gilliam.

Pallbearers will be Michael Holden, William Holden, Randy Holden, Joseph Holden, Brett Holden, Scott Greene and Derek Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be George R. Gilliam, Timmy Gilliam, Ray Holden, Wayne Garner, J.W. Garner, Doug Church and the members of the J.B. Smith Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 202 S. Main St., Mt. Pleasant or to the Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 E. James Campbell Blvd., Columbia.
