Annie Geneva Barnett Baker Roberts was born February 23, 1919 in Iron City, TN, one of eight children born to the late William Avery Barnett and Rosie Lee Littrell Barnett. She married Elmer Wilson Baker in 1935. They were married 60 years when he passed away in February 1996. She married again to Clifford Roberts in 1998 who passed away in December 2006.
Mrs. Roberts had a green thumb and could grow just about anything. She loved to can the produce of her vegetable garden. She was also a quilter and enjoyed needlework. She was the last surviving charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church and was dedicated to the church from its beginning. In past years, she had been employed by Mt. Pleasant Manufacturing.
Mrs. Roberts passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her children, Dorris Sudberry and Eugene W. Baker, both of Mt. Pleasant, Douglas R. Jeanie Baker of Huntsville, AL and Linda Malek Morcos of Charlotte, NC; 12 grandchildren, Sherry Kenneth White, Monica Baker, Jay Kim Baker, Mark Elaine Baker, Stephanie Jeff Yeager, Brent Andrea Baker, Matthew Rachel Baker, Clarinda Terrell Griffin, Jennifer Morcos, James Greta Morcos, Joseph Michelle Morcos and Rachael Bruce Brown; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by one son, James Earl "Peanuckle" Baker and her 7 siblings, Hershell Barnett, Hollis Barnett, Herman Barnett, Mamie Barnett, Clethal Priscilla Percy Hollis, Louise Harold Boyd and Gladys Marie Nicholas Marinos.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. William Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Baker, Corey Baker, Jay Baker, Brent Baker, James Morcos, Joseph Morcos and Kirk Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant or to the charily of your choice.
