Gene Thomas Byrd

April 1, 1922 — July 8, 2008

Mr. Gene T. Byrd, age 86, a resident of Highland Avenue and former resident of the Water Valley Community in Santa Fe, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday July 8, at Signature Health Care of Columbia.

Funeral services for Mr. Byrd will be conducted Thursday, July 10, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia Brother Eddie Rogers, Reverend Howard Alexander and Brother Olan Bassham officiating. Burial will follow in the Alexander Cemetery in the Water Valley Community

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Tommy B. and Lessie Alexander Byrd. He was retired from Continental Aluminum Plant for 17 years and later retired as a Road Grader operator for the Maury County Highway Department with 15 years of service. He was a member of the Water Valley Church of Christ.

He is survived by two sisters, Christine Luckett and Mildred Zeber both of Columbia; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Adel Byrd, Lillie Puckett and Louisa Kelley; two brothers: Thelton Byrd and William T. Byrd.

Pallbearers will be Billy Haynes, Henry Harris, Darrell Brown, Troy Lott, Douglas B. Rutherford, John Burns, Emersion Potts, Keith Baker, Van Boshers and Mike Brent. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Water Valley Church of Christ, members of the Goshen Methodist Church, employees of the Maury County Highway Department and the Staff of the Signature Health Care formerly Columbia Care and Rehab.
