Gary R. Chapman was born September 24, 1940 in Arnold, Kansas, the son of the late Fred Chapman and Ruth Sweitzer Chapman. He was the husband of Betty Clanton Chapman of Ethridge. Gary work for a number of years as an auto body painter at Erv’s Body Shop in Dodge City, KS. During that time, he had the privilege of painting the semi tractor used in the film “Smoky and The Bandit”. Over the last several years, Gary has enjoyed farming, raising horses and cows.
Along with Betty, Gary is survived by two daughters, Julie Jamie of Pueblo, CO and Debbie Garcia of Dodge City, KS; four step-children, Donnie Patton of Mound Ridge, KS, Connie (Jimmy) Workman of Summertown, Shelly (Gene) Hushbeck of Mound Ridge, KS and Chris Wiens of Summertown; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon (Don) Guess of Liberty, MO, Charlotte (Roy) Martin of Arno, KS, Revel (Wally) Sanders of Longview, TX and one brother, Royce Chapman of Buckland, KS. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joann Workman.
Gary passed away on Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his devoted and loving family.
Funeral services for Gary will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Johnny Higgason officiating. Burial will follow in the Blowing Springs Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Clanton, Jack Clanton, D.J. Woodard, Donnie Patton, Jimmy Kennedy and Randy Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Christy Kennedy and Jimmy Workman.
