Fredrick "Boyd" Roberts

Fredrick “Boyd” Roberts, age 85, longtime resident of Chantay Acres in Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the home of his son in Culleoka,Tennessee.
Boyd was born on June 8, 1932 to Fred and Lillie Bryant Roberts in Columbia, Tennessee. He married Betty June Hobson on June 2, 1951 and they were happily married and devoted to one another for over sixty years, until Betty’s passing on March 2, 2012. He was retired from the maintenance department at Union Carbide. Northside Baptist Church was his church home and he loved his church family dearly.
Boyd’s children remember that he always put his family before himself in everything he did. They and all his grandchildren affectionately called him “Daddy Boyd”. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks on people. Camping and visiting the mountains were things he loved to do. He and Betty were members of a gospel quartet for several years, and enjoyed singing at churches in the area.
Boyd is survived by his children: Sherry Kirby of Columbia, Rhonda (Donnie) Putnam of Columbia and Freddy (Christy) Roberts of Culleoka; grandchildren: Rodney Huckaby, Tara Huckaby, Courtney (Jeff) Saum, Casey (Robert) Russell and Taylor Roberts; great-grandchildren: Danielle Huckaby, Tyler Huckaby, Chelsea (Darian Lowe) Murphy, Brittney Blocker, Cole Blocker, McKenzie Putnam and Aiden Saum; and great-great-granddaughter: Kinsley Lowe.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Fred Roberts and Lillie Bryant Roberts Stofel; beloved wife: Betty June Hobson Roberts; granddaughter: Ashley Huckaby; and sister: Thelma Brewer.
Funeral services for Boyd will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church on Theta Pike in Columbia with Bro. John Rushing and Bro. Walter Clot officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Rodney Huckaby, Donnie Putnam, Larry Brown, Frank Lindsey, Scott Turner, Charlie Dugger and Wayne Yarborough will service as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer are Boyd’s Northside Baptist Church Family and his Sunday School.
