Mr. Freddie Lee Tidwell, age 64, passed away on Friday, February 07, 2014 at his home in Columbia, Tennessee following an extended illness.
Freddie was born on October 6, 1949 to the late LeRoy Jackson Tidwell and the late Annie Bell Beard in Osawatomie, Kansas. On January 30, 1998 he married Peggy Burnham and celebrated their sixteenth anniversary this year.
Freddie served his country as a combat medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was stationed in Germany and was discharged in 1979. We owe him a debt of gratitude as he was a Disabled American Veteran.
His family remembers that Freddie was a loving husband and father. He was also was a caring man and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Tidwell is survived by his wife: Peggy Burnham Tidwell; children: Jason (Cindy) Tidwell of Franklin, TN, Clarissa (Glenn) Conner of Franklin, TN, Douglas (Spring) Tidwell of Hickman County, TN, Kelley (Johnny) Bizwell of Franklin, TN, and Shelley (Wesley) Thornton of Nashville, TN; step-children: Matthew (Anne) Montgomery of Murfreesboro, TN and Robert (Ashley) Montgomery of Columbia, TN; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings: Patty (Ray) Luther of Fairview, TN, Peggy Hood of Franklin, TN, Tammy (Harlan) Pewitt of Fairview, TN, Debbie Thompson of Fairview, TN, Anna Mae (Kenny) Bentley of Hickman County, TN, Roy (June) Thompson of Franklin, TN and Donald (Alesha) Thompson of Franklin, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tidwell is preceded in death by his sister: Elizabeth Kay Tidwell.
Funeral services for Freddie will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Willie Poteete, Tanner Poteete, Jamie Hood, Darrel Williams, Donald Thompson, Jr., Ben Spears, Ray Luther and Frank Spears will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Caris Healthcare, Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center and the Cancer Center, Charles Mitchell, and James Kolek.
