Francisca "Margarita" Cartagena de Castillo peacefully ascended to be with the Lord on July 25, 2024, in her residence, enveloped by the love of her family in Columbia, Tennessee. Born in Santa Rosa, Guatemala on October 15, 1930, to the late Daniel Cartagena and Elvira Pineda, Margarita’s life was a testament to resilience and profound love.

Her cherished memory will be eternally honored by her devoted children: Magaly (Raul) Hernandez, Brenda (Raul) Mendez, Gustavo (Alma) Castillo, Luis (Vanessa) Castillo, and Karla (Bill) Dupignac. Margarita's enduring legacy will flourish through her grandchildren: Raul, Zucy, Mercy, and Paul Hernandez; Zucy and Kenney Mendez; Josue, Jasmin, and Vanessa Castillo; Samuel, Belen, and Raquel Castillo; Rebekah and Leah Dupignac; along with numerous extended family members.

Margarita had an extraordinary appreciation for the splendor of God’s creations, frequently pausing to admire the beauty of exquisite flowers. She delighted in selecting her favorite blossoms and preserving their elegance, sharing them with others by inscribing verses and scriptures on cards, adorned with a special flower. Daily, she found solace in reading her Bible and singing devotionals, a practice that brought her immense peace and joy, especially when shared with her family. Her innate nature was one of nurturing and benevolence, always ready to assist her neighbors, embodying a spirit of compassion and kindness. Margarita was a woman of God, steadfast in her faith which illuminated a path for many lives. Her family will always remember her as a wonderful mother who was always present, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance.

Margarita had a variety of favorite hobbies including knitting, sewing, embroidery, painting, and making word search books, but most of all, she delighted in entertaining family and friends with her warm hospitality and infectious joy. Margarita will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her presence. Her legacy of unwavering love, deep faith, and compassionate care for others will continue to inspire and guide those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Columbia from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a funeral service commencing at noon. To follow, Margarita will be laid to rest in the Garden of Peace at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Francisca "Margarita" Cartagena de Castillo ascendió pacíficamente para estar con el Señor el 25 de julio de 2024, en su residencia, envuelta por el amor de su familia en Columbia, Tennessee. Nacida en Santa Rosa, Guatemala el 15 de octubre de 1930, hija de los difuntos Daniel Cartagena y Elvira Pineda, la vida de Margarita fue un testimonio de resiliencia y profundo amor.

Contrajo matrimonio con Gustavo Castillo Arriola el 7 de Diciembre de 1957, y tuvieron cinco hijos. Su querida memoria será eternamente honrada por sus hijos devotos: Magaly (Raúl) Hernández, Brenda (Raúl) Méndez, Gustavo (Alma) Castillo, Luis (Vanessa) Castillo y Karla (Bill) Dupignac. El legado perdurable de Margarita florecerá a través de sus nietos: Raúl, Zucy, Mercy y Paul Hernández; Zucy y Kenney Méndez; Josué, Jasmin y Vanessa Castillo; Samuel, Belén y Raquel Castillo; Rebekah y Leah Dupignac; junto con numerosos miembros de su familia extendida.

Margarita tenía una apreciación extraordinaria por el esplendor de las creaciones de Dios, frecuentemente deteniéndose para admirar la belleza de las flores exquisitas. Le encantaba seleccionar sus flores favoritas y preservar su elegancia, compartiéndolas con otros al escribir versículos y escrituras en tarjetas adornadas con una flor especial. Diariamente, encontraba consuelo leyendo su Biblia y en cantando devocionales, una práctica que le traía inmensa paz y alegría, especialmente cuando la compartía con su familia. Su naturaleza innata era de crianza y benevolencia, siempre dispuesta ayudar a sus vecinos, transmitiendo un espíritu de amor, compasión y bondad. Margarita fue una mujer de Dios, firme en su fe que iluminó el camino de muchas vidas. Su familia siempre la recordará como una madre maravillosa que siempre estuvo presente, ofreciendo apoyo, sabiduría y amor en abundancia.

Margarita tenía una variedad de pasatiempos favoritos que incluían tejer, coser, bordar, pintar y hacer libros de búsqueda de palabras, pero sobre todo, se deleitaba en entretener a familiares y amigos con su cálida hospitalidad y alegría contagiosa. Margarita será profundamente extrañada por todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de ser tocados por su presencia. Su legado de amor inquebrantable, fe profunda y cuidado compasivo por los demás continuará inspirando y guiando a quienes la conocieron y amaron.
