Frances Potts Hendrix, age 77, long time resident of Parker Street in Columbia, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday afternoon at Life Care Center, with her children at her bedside.
She was born on November 11, 1933 in Columbia to the late James Clarence and Betty Leona Smithson Potts. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson Hendrix, in 2003. Frances' life was dedicated to her children and caring for children of others. She spent many years in the nursery department of the First United Methodist Church in Columbia. Her children said that on more than one occasion when they were out with their mother someone would run up to her and say "Mrs. Frances, Mrs. Frances". She was a faithful member of Highland Park Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include her children: Ben Jane Burke of Chattanooga, Sonia Renee Burke Bobby Fitzgerald of Columbia and William Mary Burke of Franklin; grandchildren: Melissa Nicole Davenport of Red Bank, TN, Brian Jason Burke of Chattanooga, Will Fitzgerald of Columbia, Zachary Stephen Burke and Natalie Fontana Burke, both of Franklin; two brothers: James Clarence Potts, Jr., of Columbia and Milton Eugene Potts of Ashland City; one niece: Hattie Mae White of Culleoka. Frances was preceded in death by two children: Alicia Gaye Burke and Stephen Lafayette Burke; two sisters: Hattie Willie Wilson and Charlotte Potts Sherman.
Funeral services for Frances will be conducted Friday at 3:00 P.M. at Highland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Adair and her son, Ben, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia and Friday from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M at Highland Park Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church.
